Big News! Find me in Hyannis!
“Write the kind of story you would like to read. People will give you all sorts of advice about writing, but if you are not writing something you like, no one else will like it either.” —Meg Cabot
Hi Writer!
Big News!
I have an announcement this week – this summer you can find me teaching “Beginner Writing” and “Flash Fiction” at the Cape Cod Writers Center’s conference July 31-August 3. We’ll be in beautiful Hyannis, MA – a perfect spot for exploring the cape or catching a ferry to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard.
This is my first time teaching at a conference, and I could not be more delighted to start in such a lovely location with these excellent teachers.
If you’re looking for a way to pair your beach time with writing or even meet up with a literary agent, check out the conference here.
Behind the Scenes
This week I decided to post a few videos on youtube answering questions that come up in my writing classes. (check out www.youtube.com/@KayleighShoenWritingCoach ) for examples.
Unfortunately, my photobombing doggy wasn’t always camera ready!
Anyway, if you’ve got a question to Ask a Writing Teacher, I’d love to hear it. You can reply to this email or drop it in the comments on my Youtube.
Today’s Reason to Write is…
Brain dump! Sometimes life gets busy and it takes all your energy just to keep track of everything. If this is you today, try journaling.
You can mix the to-do’s with the big feelings, and the rants with the bullet points. Whatever is weighing on you right now, just write it out.
And if you do try it, reply to this email to let me know how it went.
This Week I’m:
Reading: still reading and loving Thank You Mr. Nixon by Gish Jen.
Watching: The finale of Andor! No spoilers, but I liked it. If you’ve stopped after the first episode, I recommend going back and trying it again.
Listening to: my 2024 summer playlist. What should I add for 2025?
Snacking on: Swedish candy is ALL over my feeds. I have thus far resisted, but did eat a whole pack of sour watermelons that I found in the kitchen cupboard just to stop myself clicking buy. Help. I can’t keep holding out against the bubs!
Until next week, Happy Writing!
Kayleigh
