Hi Friends,
Happy 2024!
Just a short newsletter for today. This year I’ve decided that instead of a traditional resolution, I’m going to focus on beginnings. Which means I’ll take a look at the ways I start classes, how I introduce myself, my morning routine, and other applications as I think of them. The first change I’ve made is to add a writing quote to the top of each newsletter. I hope you like it.
Do you have a word or idea you’ll concentrate on this year?
This Week I’m:
Reading: Your Future Self: How to Make Tomorrow Better Today by Hal Hershfield. I really enjoyed this book, which delved into brain science and philosophy to figure out why we all too often screw over our future selves with the decisions we make today.
Watching: Fisherman’s Friends, a cute movie about the “original buoy band.”
Listening to: the real singers who inspired the movie.
Start Journaling in 2024
Next week I’ll send my welcome email to students in “The Writing Life: Journaling.” So if you’ve been on the fence, sign up now to make sure you get all the info in time. This zoom class is a great way to fit some creative writing and socializing into your weeks in the dark winter months, without needing to go out in the cold.
The Writing Life: Journaling. Meets 6 Mondays, Jan. 22-Mar. 4 (no class Feb. 19) from 6:00–9:00 pm EST. Meets on Zoom. $375 ($360 members) Sign up at: https://grubstreet.org/findaclass/class/the-writing-life-journaling-3/
Journaling is the perfect way to get writing if you, like Flannery O’Connor, want to discover what you know.
Thanks for reading!
