Spring Classes in Bloom!
Happy March, Writer!
The temps are on the way up and soon the first little flower buds will be poking their way up through the soil. If growing some new writing is in your plans, check out the new classes I have coming up beginning next week!
Intro to Fiction (6 Weeks in person, Boston Seaport)
Mondays, March 10 – April 28, 2025
Ready to get the stories in your head onto paper? If there’s a story you want to tell, but you have no idea where to begin (or you need a refresher), this generative course is for you. Over six weeks, you will learn the essentials of fiction and put them into practice by starting to write your own short stories. Each week, we will focus on a different aspect of craft–including character, point of view, setting, structure, and dialogue–and explore it through published short stories to illuminate that topic and inspire our own writing. We’ll put what we learn into practice through weekly exercises and writing prompts. In the second half of class, you will have the opportunity to submit a full short story to receive feedback from the instructor and your fellow writers, to help you get a sense of what your strengths are, and how to build on them. $395 ($380 Grub Members) Sign up at https://grubstreet.org/workshop/intro-to-fiction-3
Jumpstart Your Writing in 2025 (6 weeks in person, Boston Seaport)
Wednesdays, March 12 – April 23, 2025
Whether you've never written creatively before or you're a more experienced writer looking for a recharge, your mission in this course is simple: start off 2025 by devoting three hours of your week to writing. Through a series of engaging writing exercises, we will mine our experiences and imagination for material and bring what we find to life on the page, constructing characters and settings, shaping vivid dialogue, choosing point of view, and exploring the nuances of structure. We will discuss the process of writing and the strengths and weaknesses of the work we produce in class. With an eye on craft and an openness to inspiration, we will read and discuss short pieces (fiction, non-fiction, and poetry) by a variety of writers. $395 ($380 Grub Members) Sign up at https://grubstreet.org/workshop/jumpstart-your-writing-in-2025-4-3
